The disaster at the Chernobyl NPP on March 25, 1986, 36 years ago, posed a significant radioactive threat to civilization. More than 800,000 people took part in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident, more than 6,000 Latvian citizens, performing the feat, sacrificing health and also lives on behalf of future generations.
For several decades, Latvian doctors and medical personnel have been carrying out medical care and rehabilitation of participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident tirelessly, selflessly, conscientiously, qualified and responsibly, helping to reduce, neutralize and overcome the consequences of the damage caused in emergency works.
In gratitude for the support provided in the ceremony of remembrance in the museum's Hall of Fame, the President of the Latvian Union "Chernobyl", Arnolds Ārvaldis Vērzemnieks, and the Chairman of the Union's Honorary Mark Council Māris Šops awarded the medical staff of Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital with the Badge of Honour:
-Sigita Ķeiri, occupational doctors of occupational and radiation medicine centre;
-Juta Lisichkina, hospital internal care nurse;
-Ainārs Rudzītis - doctor cardiologist, Doctor of Med., assistant professor;
-Artūrs Ozoliņš, Chief Physician in Hepatobiliary Surgery, Doctor of Med., Associate Professor;
-Ivars Gelders, urologist at the urology department;
-Ieva Kalve, trade and doctors of the trade and med. centre.
The Medical Medal of the International Association of Ukraine was presented:
-Natalia Gabruševa, nurse at the Occupational and Radiation Medicine Centre;
-Tija Zvagule, occupational physician of the Occupational and Radiation Centre, Doctor of Med.;
-Jolanta Cīrule, Head of Occupational and Radiation Medicine Centre, occupational doctor;
-Ojārs Rubens, Doctor neurologist at the Occupational and Radiation Medicine Centre;
-Hannai Cicāne, pharmacist of AS Senter form pharmacy.
