On April 26th of this year, in commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the Chornobyl accident, participants in the Chornobyl disaster cleanup efforts laid flowers at the Memorial Stone on the grounds of the Paul Stradins Clinical University Hospital (PKU). In gratitude for providing medical care to survivors, Rinalds Mucins, Chairman of the Board of P. Stradins Clinical University Hospital, was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Latvian Union "Chernobyl."
In the afternoon, during the solemn event devoted to the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Latvian Union "Chernobyl" at the Latvian Fire-Fighting Museum, the Medal of Honor of the Latvian Union "Chernobyl" for significant contributions to medical care was awarded to Inara Logina, MD, professor of the Chair of Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation of RSU, Dr. P. Stradins KUS Neurology Algologist, and Māra Vitola, MD, cardiologist. The Medicine Medal of the Ukrainian International Association "Krajina" was awarded to Tamara Shevchuk, a nurse at the Professional and Radiation Medicine Center at KUS Paul Stradins Hospital. Vladimir Meshcheryakov was awarded the Cross of Recognition of the Latvian Reserve Officers Association. Aivars Krisans, a Chornobyl victim from Varakļani, was awarded the Latvian State Defense Fund's "Lāčplēsis" badge. Public worker Ivars Umbraško, who, together with other volunteers, drives cars for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has been awarded the Charity Medal of Ukraine.
