For several years, 112 Day has been celebrated on 11 February. The decision to have a single emergency telephone number was taken by the Council of Ministers of the European Community in 1991, following a proposal from the European Commission. In Latvia, the single emergency number 112 has been in operation for 26 years.
1️⃣1️⃣2️⃣ is Europe's single emergency telephone number that can be called free of charge from any landline or mobile phone. There is no need to enter a country or region code to call the local emergency services (police, ambulance, fire and rescue services). Misuse of the number can result in a criminal record in almost all participating countries, as can misuse of other emergency numbers.
