About Fire station at Hanzas Street 5, Riga
In 1909, the City of Riga began construction of the Riga City Fire Station at 5 Hanzas Street in Riga, which was completed in December 1910.
On 1 January 1911, Riga's 5th Fire Brigade started working in the building. In the course of time, this team became one of the most modern and qualified in Latvia.
From 1940 and after World War II, the Junior Commanding Staff (Instructors) School was organized in the building, later it was renamed the Sergeants' School, and in 1953 the Militarized Firefighting Training Unit. In 1974, the Training Unit was moved to a new complex at Ķengaraga Street 3, Riga.
From 1974, the depot building housed the 12th Special Equipment Unit of the Technical Service Unit, and later, until August 31, 2022, the 9th Unit of the Riga Regional Department of the State Fire Service, which was disbanded as part of a structural reform.
